The Logistics and Industrial Activity Area of Asturias is designed as a port and regional mixed logistics area to become the essential structure for a powerful scheme of different modes of transport (road, rail, maritime and air) needed to distribute goods to all markets.
Therefore, Zalia means a great multimodal platform:
- It will count on new accesses to link the ports and the airport by means of a great network of high-capacity roads: A-8, A-66, AS-I, AS-II.
- The new railway terminal together with Pajares diversion will enable faster and more fluent communications with the meseta which will provide new ways to transport goods and passengers thus improving links between Asturian ports and the hinterland.
- Zalia will form a link in the value chain of the motorways of the sea and will be part of Gijón-Nantes motorway, and therefore of Madrid-Paris axis which links two motorways through a convenient, fast, economic and safe maritime service.
- It is also an investment based on the development of air freight through Asturias Airport located 15 km away from Avilés and 40 km from Gijón.
